1. Nanoparticles tracking analysis LM 10 system

In June 2012, in the frame of our project we aquired a microscope for visualization of nanoparticles (20-2000nm) in liquid suspension, amounting to 25000 Euro. This acquisition was done in our research program.

NanoSight LM series are newly developed devices designed to determine the size distribution and numbers of nanoparticles in polydisperse and heterogeneous systems, such as systems that are partially aggregated. The analyzer uses a CCD or Scientific CMOS camera mounted on an optical microscopic system to track light scattered by particles that are present in a focused (80 mm) laser beam generated by a single-mode laser diode. The Brownian motion of the nanoparticles is tracked at 30 frames s-1. Dedicated image analysis software is employed to evaluate mean squared displacements of each visible particle, which are used to determine sizes based on the Stokes Einstein equation.

According to the declaration production company Nanosight Ltd. England who delivered and installed the equipment, this is the only of this type in the country.

Below we present 2 reports obtained with NanoSight LM10 regarding the analysis of nanoparticles collected from the flue gas filters of the Pro Air Clean Ecologic Timisoara incinerator.

2. Comsol Multiphysics

COMSOL Multiphysics is a finite element analysis, solver and Simulation software / FEA Software package for various physics and engineering applications, especially coupled phenomena, or multiphysics. COMSOL Multiphysics also offers an extensive interface to MATLAB and its toolboxes for a large variety of programming, preprocessing and postprocessing possibilities. The packages are cross-platform (WindowsMacLinux). In addition to conventional physics-based user interfaces, COMSOL Multiphysics also allows for entering coupled systems of partial differential equations (PDEs). The PDEs can be entered directly or using the so-called weak form.
